Marvin Figueroa serves as Governor Spanberger’s Secretary of Health and Human Resources for the Commonwealth of Virginia. A Virginian by way of the Bronx and originally from Honduras, the Secretary brings a diverse perspective to public service. He has built his career across federal and state government focused on expanding access to affordable care, strengthening support for families, and improving how government delivers services to communities.
He has held senior roles at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and in the U.S. Senate, where he helped advance bipartisan health policy, including passage of the CHRONIC Care Act. He previously served as Virginia’s Deputy Secretary of Health and Human Resources, working to expand Medicaid, strengthen behavioral health and social services, and improve public health operations.
The Secretary is committed to practical, results-driven solutions and building partnerships that improve outcomes for Virginians.
